This is the question I am asked the most by clients. What should we wear to our session?
For sessions featuring multiple people, I advise clients to start with a pattern. For instance, a beautiful floral dress or shirt, like in the photo below. You can then reach into the pattern and pull colors for the others in the shoot, and the pattern breaks everything up a bit and makes it feel less matchy-matchy.
If you don't have a particular pattern in mind, get inspired by the location of your session. If you'll be at the beach: think seaglass colors, corals, blues. If you'll be in the woods, olives, greens, browns, creams. If they go together in nature, they definitely will when you wear them.
If your wardrobe is more classic, you can choose a neutral and use a scarf or wrap or other accessory to provide the oomph.
Whatever you wear should be something you feel FABULOUS in. If you buy a new outfit for the session, wear it a few times before so that you feel completely comfortable in it. It's better to wear something you feel great in than something that's perfectly matched to the others, to the surroundings, etc. If you feel like a million bucks, that will shine through more than anything else.
A few general tips:
Pattern mixing is encouraged. Just make sure that they're tied together by a similar color.
Purples are flattering on everyone and look gorgeous in print.
Play with textures to add visual interest. In the photo below, both mom and baby are wearing the same color but the stripes and lace keep it from feeling to matchy and from blending in to each other.
And if you're still having trouble...well, that's what I'm here for! You can always, always run outfit ideas by me. I can even help you plan or source things to wear to complete your look. x
